Wonderland Camp
Wonderland Camp is approaching its $1 million fundraising goal for the “Funding the Future” campaign, with $654,000 raised so far. The J.E. & L.E. Mabee Foundation has approved a $200,000 matching grant, contingent on raising an additional $180,079 by May 1, 2025. Thanks to year-end donations from 2024, this target is now reduced to $108,000. Founded in 1969, Wonderland Camp serves over 1,000 campers with disabilities annually. The funds will support facility improvements, including the renovation of Miller Hall, the camp’s main activity center, and the construction of additional housing to accommodate more campers. Executive Director Jill Wilke expressed excitement over the grant, which will help expand and improve the camp. Donations can be made online or by mail, and Missouri businesses may be eligible for a 70% tax credit.
Dogpatch Arcade
The Dogpatch store, a beloved landmark on the Bagnell Dam Strip since 1947, has new ownership under Jason Van Houten, who took over on January 3, 2025. Van Houten, a California native who moved to the Lake of the Ozarks in 2008, plans to preserve the store’s nostalgic, family-friendly appeal while gradually making improvements. The 10,000 square feet shop, offering gifts, novelties, souvenirs, and a taste of Ozarks history, marks Van Houten as the third owner in 80 years. Inspired by his mentor, Mike Page, the previous owner, Van Houten’s journey began with owning the neighboring Grandma’s Candy Kitchen. He credits his staff for the success of both businesses and plans to keep Dogpatch’s charm intact during its first year under his ownership, with subtle updates and new items. Excited about the ongoing transformation of the Bagnell Dam Strip, Van Houten views his role as a way to foster family traditions and create lasting memories for future generations.
Tucker Development
A new five-level entertainment complex near Bagnell Dam, developed by George Tucker, is set to open in 2026. The project, which began construction in late 2023, will feature pools, bars, and family-friendly entertainment. Originally slated for a 2025 opening, the complex will accommodate up to 2,000 people and offer Lakeside dining with a fresh, made-from-scratch menu. The 3rd and 4th floors, open year-round, will include shuffleboard, duckpin bowling, and other games.
