Tucked away on an expansive 465-acre property, this modern farmhouse offers more than just a beautiful place to live; it tells a story of legacy, craftsmanship, and intentional living. For the homeowner, Alan Downey, building this home through Liberty General Contracting was about more than design. It was about creating a sanctuary that honors his past while embracing the serenity of the land.
“We had to have a wraparound covered deck. That was non-negotiable,” he shares. “The whole idea was to lean into a farmhouse theme that felt authentic to this land and lifestyle.” After running a successful company near Kansas City, he made the move to the Lake area full-time. “I’ve been down here 25 years, moved the company in 2000, and brought 12 employees with me. The company eventually sold in 2017,” he says. “I’d always had a weekend place down here, but I wanted something permanent, off gravel, and with space to breathe.”
That space now spans not only the 3,000-square-foot home but also includes a 40×60 drive-through shop, a five-hole putting green, and views that stretch for miles. “Just being out here on this acreage and kind of out here by yourself,” he says with a smile. “That’s my favorite part.”
Perched on a gentle hill with expansive views of the surrounding landscape, this home offers both seclusion and open-air luxury. From above, the structure hugs the land with ease, making the most of its wide footprint and welcoming wraparound porch. The placement is intentional, offering a stunning backdrop of rolling hills and green vistas in every direction.
The front exterior is greeted with crisp white board-and-batten siding paired with rich wood tones and a steep gabled roofline. A wide concrete drive leads to the double garage and a cozy covered front porch, where a classic white rocking chair invites guests to sit and stay awhile. It’s the kind of entry that exudes curb appeal and comfort at the same time..
Foyer
When you step through the front door, warm wood accents, clean architectural lines, and plenty of natural light create a welcoming interior. The foyer hints at the home’s personality: equal parts rustic charm and contemporary polish. Simple, open, and thoughtfully connected to the rest of the home, it sets the tone for the relaxed elegance within.
Kitchen
The heart of the home lies in the striking kitchen. A bold navy range hood steals the show, set against a backdrop of distressed brick and flanked by floating natural wood shelves. White cabinetry with matte black pulls provides clean contrast and plenty of storage, while the dark stone countertops add visual depth. It’s a space built for both beauty and function, perfect for family meals and weekend entertaining.
Living Room
Just off the kitchen, the living space is open yet intimate. Exposed wood beams, cozy neutral tones, and panoramic views of the surrounding land make this area perfect for gathering. Whether it’s quiet mornings with a cup of coffee or a family movie night, this living area brings everyone together with comfort and ease.
Main Bedroom
The main bedroom is a serene escape, offering privacy and restfulness. Designed to feel like a retreat, the space is warm and minimal, with soft textures and neutral finishes. Large windows draw in natural light, creating a peaceful setting to begin and end each day.
En-Suite
In the ensuite, clean lines meet spa-like luxury. The palette is understated and elegant, with
rich tile work, a spacious walk-in shower, and modern matte fixtures. It’s a space that reflects the home’s broader design approach. It is stylish, timeless, and tailored to everyday use.
Outside
The real magic happens outside, where the wraparound porch offers front-row views of the natural landscape. Crisp white railings and dark wood columns frame a space that’s
perfect for lounging, hosting, or simply enjoying the fresh air.
Functionality
One of the standout features of this home is its balance of function and family-first design. “With three young kids, it was important for our space to be livable,” Alan shared. “We focused on practical flow and durable finishes, without giving up any of the character we love.” From the custom kitchen design to the open layout and spacious porch, every feature serves a purpose while enhancing the overall aesthetic.
With its thoughtful design, family-focused layout, and idyllic setting, this transitional modern farmhouse is the perfect blend of elegance and ease. Built to grow with the people who live in it, it’s not just a house; it’s a home designed for living well
