Lawrence Martin, the owner of Martin Structures, Inc., has built more than just structures. He has built a legacy of hard work, perseverance, and family values. From a young age, Martin was immersed in the construction world, learning the trade from his father, Edward Martin. Now, as the head of a successful business, he reflects on his journey, his challenges, and the joys of
running his own company.
Growing up in rural Missouri near Excelsior, Lawrence Martin was introduced to construction at an early age. His father, a builder, instilled in him the 
fundamentals of carpentry and the importance of financial literacy. These two lessons would prove invaluable throughout his career.
“He taught us the basics. He always helped neighbors build things,” Martin recalled. By the time he was 16, he had already gained more framing experience than most. “At 16 years of age, I had more framing experience than the average guy definitely had.” He started his career working for Hughes Construction, where he honed his skills before moving on to Fair and Square Construction. “Vernon Zimmerman, the owner there, really taught me a lot about more advanced carpentry,” Martin said. “Specialty framing on specialty houses.”
In 2010, at the age of 20, Lawrence Martin took a bold step and launched Martin Structures, Inc. His decision was fueled by an opportunity to take over an existing business whose owner was looking to exit the industry. With determination, Martin purchased the necessary tools, hired experienced workers, and set out to make a name for himself.
“On May 1st of 2010, Martin Structures was 
born,” he said proudly. But the early years were not easy. “It was right after the recession. Things were tough. It was tough to have enough work year-round, and there was just frankly not as much money around as there is now,” Martin admitted. As his business grew, so did his team. “I had one crew to begin with. A couple of years later, I had two crews, and a couple of years after that, three. And now, I have four crews out daily, Martin said.
For Lawrence Martin, business is more than just construction. It’s about family. “We have six children-two girls and four boys. They range in ages from five to 14, he shared. His children are already getting involved in small ways. “My 13-year-old daughter comes over here and cleans the office. If there’s some equipment that needs to be loaded, my 14-year-old boy can help get that done in the evening.” Looking ahead, he hopes to see the business continue as a family legacy. “Yes,” he said when asked if he envisions it becoming a full-fledged family business. “It’s probably already kind of a family business as it is.”
A major milestone for Martin Structures is on the horizon. “By this time next year, we’ll have an office and shop out along Highway 5,” he said. “That’s going to be a major catalyst for Martin Structures.”
Throughout his journey, Martin attributes much of his success to his faith. “Faith in God is very important to me,” he emphasizes. “I just want to always remember that He let me be in control of these things and to give Him all the honor and glory. That’s probably the biggest thing that can help the entire human race.” He also credits his wife, Annette, for her ongoing support. He highlights the stability she provides him and their family while he works hard at the job he loves.
When rerlecuing on his career, Lawrence Martin wouldn’t change a thing. “It’s been a great ride,” he said. “I wouldn’t be anything different.” As he looks to the future, one thing is certain. Martin Structures, Inc. will continue to stand strong, just like the buildings it creates.
